The Bottlenose Dolphin Research Institute BDRI is a marine science and education centre committed to conserve the diversity and integrity of marine life to meet the needs of current and future generations. To meet this aim BDRI researchers concentrate its efforts on cetaceans’ research because they command tremendous public interest and are consequently an excellent way of generating public awareness of, and concern about, wider environmental issues.
The BDRI is a well-organised team of researchers carrying out one of the most important research projects of a resident dolphin population in Europe .The BDRI is partner to ACCOBAMS, the UNEP's Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans in the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Contiguous Atlantic Area. Every year, the BDRI has educational and research programmes aimed at providing extra support for hundred of scientists early in their careers, science students and dolphin enthusiasts from different countries around the world .
By sponsoring the Bottlenose Dolphin Research Institute you will contribute to the possibility to carry out our research and accomplish our main objectives. Being a BDRI's sponsor will give you the perfect opportunity to connect with customers, partners and industry peers. Through your sponsorship, you will gain access to this large, hard to reach target market. Moreover, BDRI's sponsors will be acknowledged as the trusted and recommended expert in their industry through our scientific articles, website, networking pages, workshops and international conferences.
As a BDRI Sponsor you will be part of an international advertising campaign where your company will attain recognition across the world for your commitment to and aid in our mission and research programs. Disseminating the information from the BDRI is as important as collecting it in the first place, so that it may benefit BDRI sponsors. The BDRI is dedicated to this goal, having produced numerous scientific publications (more than 40 during the last 5 years), documentaries, and through frequent public and professional presentations since 2000. Graduate student thesis from universities world-wide and training programs for scientists, students and volunteers will help to spread the sponsors activity to reach a wider audience.
There are many groups claiming to support research on dolphins and these claims are often enough to attract considerable financial support from a well-meaning public. However, many of these organizations actually do very little or no marine mammals research.
Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), are protected by European law, but in order to develop effective protection guidelines, education and research is necessary to find out much more about the dolphins, and the pressures they face. The Bottlenose Dolphin Research Institute (BDRI) in Sardinia ( Italy ), concentrates its efforts on the study of these animals because they are predators at the top of their food chain. Their well-being therefore provides an excellent indication of the health of the entire ecosystem on which they, and we, depend.
Researchers publish their results in scientific journals to advance and summarize their knowledge. If an organization soliciting funds for scientific research is actively publishing, your support may help scientists make discovers with impacts on scientific knowledge and conservation.
BDRI members seek to contribute to the understanding and cetaceans conservation, expand the public's knowledge and concern for our marine environment, and add to the knowledge base of bottlenose dolphins through the scientific analisys of collected field data. One of the core aims of the BDRI is to find out more about wild cetaceans (dolphins and whales) through different non-invasive (that does not disturb or harm the animals) research techniques.
